We're back with more news! In one of our previous posts, we explained how we were recycling batteries. We were recycling batteries to make new things. We were also in a contest to see which school in the Ottawa Catholic School Board. Turns out, we won! We think we won mostly because one student's dad works with batteries, and he donated so many batteries, that we filled approximately 12 whole buckets! I know, that's a lot! Make sure keep reading all our posts to see what were have accomplished or what were doing!

April 22 Earth Day Prayer and Announcement Grab Bag Challenge (Plastic Bag collection) Litterless Day No Technology Challenge Walk to School Challenge Morning Yard Clean up @10:45 am Have you ever wondered where to put used markers that you do not need anymore? This year we collected used markers to be recycled and we have a bin in our school hall that all classes to contribute to. With the help of our environmental students we tried the markers to check that they do not work anymore. Every Environmental meeting that we check rooms to see if the lights are turned off recycling bins are clean and the smart board is turned off.
Why do we collect them? Pop Can Tabs Get Made Into Wheelchairs!!! Pop can tabs help so many people in the world that have injuries in their legs or/and other problems that is why with everybody's help we collect pop can tabs to make wheelchairs. The way that they make it is that they got some sort of big machine that melts the metal and makes them into the shape of a wheelchair and then they put the pillows, and arms and wheels on.
BAGS TO SCHOOL: In september when did a bag challenge called bags 2 school .
For this challenge we were raising money for schools in Africa. GRAB BAG: Right now we are collecting bags to recycle old bags and turn them into new bags & vehicle upholstery. Like last year, this year we are continuing to recycle dead batteries. This year, we collected many, many batteries in many shapes and sizes. Some were about the size of our hands! Batteries are melted to make many things. Some of those things are electricity, soil conditioner (a type of fertilizer) and two types of metal, steel and nickel. At Chapel Hill Catholic School, you can find the dead batteries at the front of the library doors and inside of the library. Why we collect them? To help those in need! Plus, it helps our environment. We also had a parent volunteer to donate batteries from the city of Ottawa to our school. The batteries were collected by a company called Raw Materials. It has been a huge success in our battery recycling drive for this year.
